WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT

EXAMPLES OF WHAT IMPLANTS ARE USED FOR

To replace a single or multiple teeth without affecting adjacent teeth
To support bridgework or replace a partial denture
To help support or secure upper or lower dentures

ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS SAFE AND DO THEY LAST

Dental implants are a natural-looking tooth replacement option. They can provide you with increased freedom and confidence by restoring that unsightly gap in your smile or that denture which never stays in one place, making eating difficult. In many cases dental implant teeth can be made to look and feel like your own teeth.

Under the right conditions and with the appropriate maintenance dental implants can last a lifetime.
Ongoing long-term studies show that dental implant treatments generally exhibit predictable and excellent success rates.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS

Generally, you need to be in good general health as well as having a healthy mouth. Dental implants are reliant on adequate jaw bone to allow placement and for good retention of the dental implant. It is important that, if you are considering dental implant treatment, there is no active periodontal (gum) infection present in your mouth as this can have a negative effect on your dental implant treatment.

Dental implants are intimately related to the jaw bone and overlying gum tissues. Thus it makes good sense that you see a highly trained and competent implant dentist for the surgical portion of your dental implant treatment. Your implant dentist and dental laboratory work closely as a team to put together your dental implant treatment from the initial consultation appointment through to the placement of the final implant crown.

With our knowledge, experience, skill and expertise we here at 1 Harley Street, Dr Darfoor will guide you through the implant treatment process smoothly.

Follow-up care

Just like your teeth, dental implants require careful and thorough cleaning (oral hygiene) at home on daily basis and regular dental check-ups. Dental implants are very much like your natural teeth and will require similar care both at home and at the dentist.

The right brushing technique, flossing and keeping the plaque levels in the mouth to a minimum are all-important for the long-term health of your new dental implant.

Following the completion of your dental implant treatment, we will collectively develop the best maintenance program for you. Follow-up appointments are necessary to monitor the health of the bone and gum around the implant tooth as well as your overall gum health.

WHATS THE MOST COMMON INDICATION FOR IMPLANT THERAPY

Replacement of one or more missing teeth
Support of a non-removable ‘bridge’ to replace multiple teeth
Support of a removable full or partial denture

Patients who successfully pass screening and evaluation can be considered as candidates for implant placement.

The primary limiting factor inherent in implant therapy is the amount of bone available to receive and support the implant. If it is determined that a patient does not have enough bone to support an implant restoration bone grafting procedures may be considered. Heavy smoking and some medical conditions will undermine the use and success of implant therapy.

Immediate Function/ Same Day Teeth

Immediate Function is otherwise known as ‘Same Day Teeth’. This is a proven clinical treatment modality that is valid for all indications and bone types. This simple protocol allows the placement of dental implant(s) and gives patients an immediate and functioning tooth or teeth on the same day. Immediate Function is a revolutionary new technique whereby a whole arch of failing teeth or a single failing tooth is replaced with dental implant(s) on the same day.

SAME DAY TEETH CAN BENEFIT PATIENTS

By providing shortened treatment time – it is possible to go from tooth loss to having functional and beautiful teeth on the same day

Suited for Patients

  • Who are faced with a failing dentition, due to gum disease or failing bridgework, whose only other option is to wear dentures.
  • Who are unable to tolerate dentures and currently wear upper and/or lower dentures
  • Who suffer from low self-confidence because of movement of dentures whilst talking or eating.

Benefits of Same Day Teeth

  • Gives greater patient comfort and in nearly all scenario’s avoid the need for advanced bone grafting procedures
  • Can provide implants for the majority of patients suffering from low bone volume
  • Unlike traditional implant techniques, typically requires no bone grafting
  • Provides significant improvement over dentures and saves time compared to traditional implant techniques
  • Shorter recovery times than most other implant procedures for full mouth reconstruction and provides new teeth the same day you come in for your implants

We appreciate and value the significant investment by our clients who proceed with Implant related therapy. It provides a fixed long-term solution and our patients benefit from such treatments which make the greatest difference to our patients, their families and friends.

Procedure

Step 1

Primary diagnostic testing is the first step.  Dental x-rays or CT scans will be used to create a three dimensional model of your jaws, once done our dental laboratory will creates your replacement teeth with the images and diagnostic models, ensuring a comfortable and accurate fit.

Step 2

On your treatment appointment Dr. Darfoor will place the dental implants and onto these implants your custom made teeth will be anchored onto. After your tooth replacements are secured and checked, you will have a beautiful set of new teeth that you can start eating and smiling with right away.

This is important for patients with low bone volume, especially those who have been told in the past they are not candidates for implants.  We are almost always able to help these patients without bone grafting, a fact that saves you time and money, and spares you from additional procedures and importantly you can have your teeth delivered on the same day.
